Free Sports Events during half term

May half term holiday

Barking and Dagenham Community Sports Team will be providing a variety of free activities for children aged 5 - 17 years old who live or go to school within Barking and Dagenham, to keep them active and healthy during school holidays.

 

Activities include Karate, Basketball, Fencing, Street Dance,Change4life multi sports and fitness camp and much more.

Activities will be available from Tuesday 26 May until Friday 29 May 2015

 

Please can you further help spread the word by displaying and/or adding the attached leaflets into your newsletter and on display boards at your school

 

we can arrange to attend your school and set up a stall where parents will have the opportunity to sign up their child/ren to the many different activities available. This can be either before school, afterschool, school fete, parents evening or any other upcoming event.

 

If you would like the children from your school to take up this great offer, the Schools Out.Get Active team can set up a promotional stall at the end of the school day for children and young people to sign up to activities/camps. Basketball Camp

Description: The project will provide an excellent basketball opportunity for young people in the Barking and Dagenham area. The sessions will consist of receiving expert coaching from highly qualified coaches. Participants will learn the basic fundamental skills of basketball, and challenges will be provided to each individual, including for those of an advanced level. There will also be competitions, prizes, lots of fun and competitive games.

      Age: 5 to 10 years

Time: 10.00am to12.00pm

      Age:  11 to 14 years

Time: 12.00am to 2.00pm

Netball camp

Description:

Netball camp is open to boys and girls aged between 8 and 17 years old. they will be placed in age and ability groups throughout the week gaining knowledge, skills and rules of the game of netball. The camp  will provide basic fundamentals of netball, learning skills in footwork, shooting, attack, defence and game play by a combination of skill based drills and small sided games. Children and young people will build confidence and meet new friends. Children and young people will be signposted to borough club sessions if they wish to continue the activity after the school holiday period

BDYD-Street Dance

Description: The project will involve young people learning a variety of street dance styles from professionals in the industry. Participants will be able to meet new friends, gain confidence and have fun at the same time. At the end of the week, a mini showcase will be presented to family and friends to show what has been learnt throughout the week.

Change4Life Sport and Fitness Camp

Description: The project will support young people to be active and healthy, by providing a multi sports and fitness camp that engages children in being physically active. Participants will be placed in aged appropriate groups and rotate around 4 activities throughout the day where they will learn basic skills. They will also participate in small sided games in the specific sport or fitness activities. Programme of activities include rugby, hockey, gymnastics, fencing, martial arts, athletics, exercise to music, circuits and fun and games. On the last day of the camp participants will take part in a day of competitions and the winning team will receive medals. Additionally, young people will be aiming to get as many stars throughout the week from good sportsmanship, good attitudes, being helpful and good behaviour. A sports goody bag will be awarded to the boy and girl with the most stickers at the end of the week.

Karate Sessions

Description: The participants will learn about themselves, both physically and mentally. Additionally, participants will be given the opportunity to meet peers and affirm friendships. Martial arts can also promote a healthy lifestyle, which can enhance both self-respect and confidence. Sessions will include basic karate lessons as well as fitness sessions. After, it is hopeful that attendees may be fed into the karate club based at Becontree Health Leisure Centre.

Fencing

Description: The project offers an exciting experience, including a fun, safe and educational environment to learn the sport of fencing. Bright coloured foam and plastic foils and plastic masks will be provided for safety, yet still allow for participants to gain the real feel of fencing. This project will provide a unique mix of physical, intellectual and emotional stimulation. It is a great way to get fit and meet new people.  Furthermore, fencing provides a perfect form of cardiovascular exercise, due to its fast-paced activity that gets the heart pumping and oxygen flowing. Muscle strength, flexibility, precision of power and coordination will be developed through the project. As well as this, the project enables participants to relieve their stress, let off steam and their frustration.

Cheerleading

Description: Cheerleading is an energetic and lively sport, which combines together music, dance, stunting and tumbling to create team routines that memorise audiences and judges around the world. There are 3 disciplines in Cheerleading, Pom Dance, Stunts and Street Cheer, The camp will provide all 3 disciplines to its participants: Each session is made up of a floor warm-up and display coaching.
